• PGY2 Other Features: Our residency values teaching and leadership experiences and offers optional Teaching Certificate and/or Leadership in Motion Certificate experiences. Residents work with UNC ESOP learners, lecture psychiatry interns, present an ACPE-accredited CE lecture, and fulfill the Teaching Assistant role for the Mental Health Elective for UNC ESOP. Residents may also lecture for the Mental Health Elective and work with the UNC AAPP chapter. In regards to leadership and community outreach, residents are expected to serve on a UNC Pharmacy Department and Resident committee as well as participate in the Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) which provides free health services to local underserved individuals.

Program Philosophy

Our program is a one-year post-doctoral training program that expands on the knowledge gained during pharmacy school and PGY-1 post-graduate training. It focuses on inpatient psychiatric care across patient care populations including pediatric, geriatric, perinatal, and adult patients. Residents will have the opportunity to gain experience in various clinics and satellite campuses as well as be supported in academic and research pursuits.

Site Special Features

Our program is based in a large academic medical center with a Psychiatric Emergency Service line and 7 inpatient acute units, including perinatal, eating disorder, adult, geriatric, pediatric, and adolescent psychiatry. In addition, UNC serves rural communities through our stand alone Youth Behavioral Heath Hospital. We work with the local Federal Correctional Center, State Hospital, and Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics to offer specialized experiences.
