Deprescribing Paper Task Force

The concept of deprescribing is on the national stage in 2026, with a focus on psychiatric disorders. Given the adversarial nature of some positions, the lack of understanding of psychiatric pharmacists is a real problem on this issue. We see growing reception to BCPPs among other health care professional associations, and so the time is right for us to proactively shape the discussion of the role of BCPPs when it comes to deprescribing.

Ethical Use of AI Task Force

AI has arrived in the treatment of mental health conditions faster than ethical guidance for use including tools such as ambient documentation and prescribing pilots. Ambient documentation tools are already in clinics, AI prescribing pilots are underway in at least one state, and surveys show healthcare organizations adopting AI far faster than they are building governance for it. Current ethical guidance is focused on medical populations and does not address the nuances or adjustments that may be needed for patient with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI).

Psychotropic Stewardship Index (PSI) Task Force

AAPP is convening a task force to create the Psychotropic Stewardship Index (PSI). PSI will be a practical scoring tool that uses data already in the chart to indicate how urgently a patient receiving psychotropic medications needs pharmacist attention. Working through a Delphi consensus process, the task force will decide which factors belong in the index, how much weight each carries, and how a resulting score should be interpreted.

Seeking Session Proposals for Interprofessional Conferences on SUD and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the Ambassador Program!

AAPP is investing in supporting member participation in targeted conferences or meetings. The Ambassador Program provides funding and support for AAPP members to present at interprofessional conferences regarding the integration of BCPPs into practice. These are intended to be introductory sessions that appeal both to audiences who are unaware of BCPPs and to audiences who need more information before adding a BCPP to the team.
