• PGY2 Other Features: The residency offers a teaching certificate through the UCSF School of Pharmacy including opportunities to lecture to and precept UCSF pharmacy APPE students. Our program allows for residents to practice under a collaborative practice agreement and obtain a DEA license. This allows residents to be able to practice independently by the end of the residency program. Residents have the opportunity to provide in home assessments and treat opioid use disorder in supportive housing units to gain experience in non brick and mortar establishments. Past residents have been able to successfully obtain positions in both inpatient and ambulatory care.

Program Philosophy

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) is offering a one-year PGY2 residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice. This program has sites across the San Francisco Department of Public Health to provide to provide a broad exposure to disease states across the health system. The residents will have the opportunity to work with nine board certified psychiatric clinical pharmacists in acute care as well as ambulatory care. This broad exposure provides residents with the training needed to work in a broad range of psychiatric pharmacy care settings.

Site Special Features

ZSFG is the safety net hospital and only Level 1 Trauma Center for the vibrant City and County of San Francisco serving 100,000 patients each year. One of the finest public hospitals in the country, ZSFG serves a very diverse patient population and is known for its quality trauma, psychiatric, and HIV care. Our physicians are UCSF faculty and residents, and we are a training site for pharmacy residents and student pharmacists from UCSF and Touro University. In this dynamic setting, the Department of Pharmacy Services provides quality patient-centered care with compassion and respect.
BHS is a division of the San Francisco Department of Public Health that provides ambulatory care psychiatric and substance abuse services for Medicaid and uninsured clients in San Francisco. BHS serves 31,000 individuals in 23 mental health clinics throughout San Francisco. BHS provides specialty mental health services for multiple age groups including child, youth and adolescents, transitional age youth, adults, and older adults. In addition, they provide a variety of levels of services including outpatient, intensive case management and ACT programs.
