- PGY2 Other Features: The residency program offers diverse clinical experiences across the continuum of VA mental health settings, including outpatient, inpatient, and residential treatment environments. Residents develop autonomy and gain experience by managing their own clinics by following their own panel of patients in the Longitudinal Resident’s Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Leadership development is fostered through interdisciplinary committee involvement, management of the resident run Lithium Pharmacovigilance Program, completion of a clinical pharmacy management project, and assigned leadership positions. The program builds on project management skills acquired during the PGY1 year by encouraging the resident to take on a more active role as the project manager for their PGY2 residency project. Both clinical and didactic teaching opportunities are available within CTVHCS and through our affiliation with the University of Texas College of Pharmacy, including elective learning experiences and a teaching certificate programs. Additionally, residents have the opportunity to receive training and certification in providing non-pharmacological treatment modalities, such as Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) and Alpha-Stim®.
